Soap Bases
- Coconut Base - creates an opaque soap. This base is moisturizing, ph balanced, vitamin E enhanced and contains only coconut and vegetable oils - no animal products are used.
- Glycerine Base - creates a nearly transparent soap. It is also very moisturizing and creates a pure and gentle lather. It is vitamin E enhanced and ph balanced, with no animal products used.
They melt easily in the microwave or in a double broiler, on a home stove.
Liquid Glycerine
- This product can be added to the soap base to give the soap a skin-softening quality. It can also be used in a hand soap or bubble bath recipe.
Soap Colorants
- Soap colorant is available in both liquid and solid cake form. The colors are very concentrated, so add only a few drops or shavings at a time until desired color is achieved. The colors are intermixable, so an unlimited range of colors are available using the basic primary hues. After color is dissolved into the soap, test color by dropping a little melted soap onto a piece of white paper. Soap will harden quickly and allow you to see the resulting color.
Soap, Candle or Candy Molds
- Reusable novelty shapes are available in a wide range of design motifs. The candle molds are made from metal and polycarbonate. Soaps are easily released and can be cleaned with hot water. When using the tall cylinder shapes and loaf shapes, the soap can then be sliced into perfectly shaped disks or bath bars. Candle molds have holes in the bottom of them. Be sure to seal the hole with a mold sealant before using as a soap mold.
Glass Heat-Resistant Measuring Cup or Pitcher
- A glass measuring cup is the perfect container for melting your soap bases. Be sure it is heat resistant such as Pyrex-type measuring cups. You can use this in the microwave as well as with a double-boiler melting method.
- Wooden Mixing Spoon
- Use this to stir the melted base to mix in the color and scent.
- Large Shallow Saucepan
- You will need this only if you are using the double boiler method of melting. It will need to be large enough to accommodate the size measuring cup you are using.
- Additives
- Botanicals: lavender seeds, chamomile leaves, citrus peel, dried herbs, dried rose petals. Must use natural and chemical free botanicals.
- Oils: olive oil, cocoa butter, baby oil. Adding oils to your soap will result in a super-fatted bar. Note: Adding too much oil may result in the soap not hardening.
- Fine cornmeal for a soap scrub, ground oatmeal or almonds for a slightly abrasive complexion bar; finely ground coffee for removing kitchen smells from your hands.
